Moldovan president: NATO for Moldova is a synonym of war

President of Moldova Igor Dodon believes that if his country joins NATO, it will face a war, where its people will be used as cannon fodder.

According to Dodon, Moldova is squeezed between two states that both oppose Russia.

“Our western neighbor is NATO, that is, Romania, our eastern neighbor is Ukraine. And in between, there is small Moldova, whose people want to be friends with Russia,” Dodon said.

He believes that the United States regards Moldova just as a means to pressure Russia and does not care for its people. “In Transnistria, there are 300,000 Russian citizens, so, any attempt to solve this conflict by means of force may have disastrous consequences for Moldova,” Dodon said.

He noted that most of the Moldovans want their country to be neutral: for Moldova, NATO means war.

“Our people want their country to be neutral. They don’t want to see NATO here. To me neutrality is a matter of principle as NATO means war. I don’t want my people to be used as cannon fodder for some geopolitical games and some battles,” the Moldovan president said.
