Russia fires Iskander-M missile

Russia has successfully fired an Iskander-M advanced ballistic missile at the Kapustin Yar range in Astrakhan Region, the Russian Defense Ministry reports on March 5.

According to the ministry, the launch was for more than a 100-km distance, it used as a target aт imaginary enemy command post. The target was hit with high precision, they at the ministry state.

“The fire launch was a completing stage of the tactic drill aimed at training of the Western Military District missile unit with the new Iskander-M missile system,” the statement runs.

As EADaily reported earlier, Iskander-M is a mobile short-range ballistic missile system designed for hitting small and area-type targets: missile systems, multiple launch rocket systems, long-range artillery, aircraft and helicopters at military bases, command posts and communication complexes at a range up to 500 km.
