Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistanis to be banned

Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT) has published a statement on its website wherein it says that the Economic Court of Dushanbe, Tajikistan, upon a petition by Prosecutor General’s Office, has banned the activity of Party in the building of its central headquarters.

In the statement, the IRPT says their office was closed down late on August 24. The party headquarters says the reason of the ban is the dispute between the State Committee for Investments and State Property Management and the owner of the IRPT building. According to the State Committee, the Party bought the building from the former owner of the building – Tijorat Company – that bought the real estate illegally. The judicial enforcement agents of the Economic Court said the office was sealed for 10 days to clarify the problems.

However, IRPT still blames the authorities for the pressure. The party planned a congress in the given office on September 15 to settle some organizational issues and decide whether to elect a new leadership or retain the incumbent one. The Party says in the statement they have applied to the Dushanbe Municipality for permission to conduct the party congress in the building, though they are sure that the municipality will reject their request.
