Serbian prime minister: Hague Tribunal did not contribute to reconciliation

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) did not contribute to peace in the region, though Serbia implemented its commitments to the court scrupulously, Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabić said when talking with President of The Hague Tribunal (ICTY) Carmel Agius, on November 1.

Brnabić demanded The Hague Tribunal to return the documents that Belgrade submitted at the request of the ICTY’s Office of the Prosecutor, the Serbian government press office reported.

Carmel Agius is on his last trip of the region before closure of ICTY by the end of the year. Talking to Brnabić, he said that the Tribunal has implemented its role and the countries in the region should now exert efforts to achieve reconciliation.

He said they are working to launch International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals to continue the activity of the Hague Tribunal.
