Russian Ambassador to Mikhail Evdokimov was invited to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on January 28 because of publications in the Russian press related to the crash of the AZAL plane near Aktau.

"The Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Baku Mikhail Evdokimov was invited to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on Tuesday. During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side noted that the publications in the Russian press and some official circles of Russia of false materials and reports directed against our country are puzzling and contradict the content and spirit of the Declaration on Allied Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry noted that preliminary results of the investigation into the tragic crash of the plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines are known, and work is underway to complete the investigation, Baku's expectations from Russia in connection with the accident were clearly stated.

"In connection with the information about the Russian House in the Azerbaijani press, it was stated that this is not the official position of the country's authorities, and the activities of such organizations in Azerbaijan are based on the principle of reciprocity and should be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the legislation," the Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry yesterday, on January 27, expressed bewilderment to the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Moscow, Rahman Mustafayev, about a series of recent anti-Russian publications in the Azerbaijani media, as well as about the disinformation campaign against the Russian House in Baku. This is reported in the statement of the department.

The Azerbaijani ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry, where he was pointed out that the accusations were groundless.

"When discussing the topic of the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane on December 25, 2024 near Aktau in Kazakhstan emphasized the need to complete the official investigation and publish its results to clarify all the circumstances of the tragedy," Moscow said.

At the same time, the Russian side stressed the unconditional importance of building relations between Russia and Azerbaijan in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance on the basis of the declaration signed at the highest level on February 22, 2022 in the national interests of both states.
