Finnish enterprises have noticeably increased deforestation within the country due to sanctions and a decrease in imports of products from Russia. This is reported by the Finnish "Forest Center" (Metsäkeskus).

"The cessation of wood imports from Russia has increased the demand for domestic wood. This has led to an increase in wood prices by almost 10%," the experts inform.

The cost of basic timber on the Finnish market has already increased by 20% with an increase in the volume of deforestation of private forests last year by 11 million cubic meters to a total of 65 million cubic meters. The result of last year is also 7.5 "cubes" higher than the results of the peak for the industry in 2021.

EADaily reminds that wood and wood products were included in the fifth package of sanctions The EU is against Moscow, adopted in 2022. But already in 2023, Russia increased its exports to friendly countries by about a third.
