The smuggling of fentanyl at the US border, which Donald Trump wanted to fight, has decreased, but the volume of other contraband has unexpectedly increased. We are talking about a 48% increase, as reported by the Polish edition Gazeta.Pl .

The American president called the "fight against drugs," primarily fentanyl, the main reason for the imposition of duties on Canada, Mexico and China. According to him, the banned drugs are prepared in China, and then delivered to Mexico and Canada, from where they are already being sent to the USA. Although it is difficult to say whether one is the result of the other, the fact is that the smuggling of fentanyl across the border has decreased significantly.

In February, drugs were seized only 63 times, while in the same month of 2024 there were 95 such cases, and in 2023 and 2022 — more than a hundred. Moreover, this is the lowest volume of fentanyl seized "by weight" in three years.

But an unexpected problem happened at the border. It's about a new kind of contraband — "egg". The US Border Guard Service reports a 48% increase in the number of confiscated eggs compared to the previous year. And all this was the result of a multiple increase in prices on the domestic market.
