Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili speaks for toughening sanctions against Russia because of the developments in Ukraine despite the fact that the sanctions have shown negative effect on the economy of his country. He made the statement at a news conference after meeting Austrian President Heinz Fischer, reports Georgia-Online.
Answering journalists’ questions, Giorgi Margvelashvili stated that it was time to remember why the sanctions had been imposed. “The only goal of the sanctions is to put an end to the war in the Ukrainian territory. The goal of the sanctions means unacceptability of the Crimea occupation. Thus, the sanctions should not only be maintained, it is necessary to enhance the political message to Russia (to show) such policy is unacceptable,” the Georgian leader said.
At the same time, he admitted that Russia’s economic problems have negative effects upon the Georgian economy.
