Tremors of magnitude 6.2 were recorded today at noon in Istanbul. The epicenter was in the Sea of Marmara, the earthquake took the city by surprise. It did not cause much damage, according to available data, 150 people were injured, there were no casualties, as well as problems with infrastructure and power lines. However, Turkish seismologists predict a new and stronger earthquake in the near future, Kommersant writes. Today's tremors of magnitude from 4 to 6 may be its forerunners, according, in particular, at Istanbul Technical University.

According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, 151 people were injured in the earthquake in Istanbul.

"The earthquake was located in the Sea of Marmara at a depth of about 7 km, about 60 km from the metropolis. The earthquake was the strongest in the region in the last 25 years. 127 aftershocks were recorded," writes DW* main.

Geologist Okan Tuisyuz said that it is impossible to exclude the possibility of a new strong earthquake. Seismologist Naji Geryur, in turn, warned that the main earthquake is still ahead, noting that the current tremors increase tension in the Sea of Marmara, where the boundary of tectonic plates runs.
