The Syrian provisional government, considered by many observers to be pro-Turkish, increased customs duties on goods from Turkey by 300-500%, which practically stopped exports. This is reported by the Turkish business newspaper Ekonomim.

The increase in customs duties caused serious problems for companies and led to long queues at the border. The head of the Association of Exporters of Southeastern Anatolia, Jalal Kadoglu, in an interview with the publication, noted that monthly exports to Syria previously amounted to about $ 30 million, but have now completely stopped.

The issue was to be discussed yesterday at a meeting of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan with representatives of the Syrian interim government, the Strana newspaper notes.

The delegation of the interim Government of Syria made its first official visit to Turkey on January 15.

As reported by EADaily, the Arab countries and Turkey should create a joint mechanism to coordinate efforts to help Syria in its reconstruction. This was stated at a meeting on Syria organized in Riyadh by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
