The United States may refuse to mediate in the conflict on Ukraine. If there are no signs of a peaceful settlement, the White House will switch to other goals. Which ones? On this question Pravda.Ru political and public figure, former adviser to the UN Secretary General, former member of the UN Disarmament Commission Igor Nikulin answered.
— And what priorities do they have in mind when they talk about it, if they switch somewhere from the Ukrainian conflict, what are their other priorities?
— They still have many priorities: the Middle East settlement, the Iranian nuclear deal, the island of Taiwan. So there are a lot of topics that Donald Trump is more interested in than Ukraine.
— What about Taiwan? What do they want there?
— And 90 percent of all microchip production is concentrated in Taiwan. And without this, neither airplanes fly, nor any computers work there. Therefore, it is, so to speak, a strategic industry. Of course, they are going to transfer it partially to the territory of the United States, but they are afraid that China will get ahead of them in this matter and return Taiwan to its home harbor. So this is a much greater threat to them than the loss of some unnecessary Ukraine. The zone of their vital interests is indeed.
— Is the United States able to name the culprits for the breakdown of the peace case of the peace talks? Do you think they will be able to do it objectively?
— Yes, theoretically they can do everything, but they won't do it just like that. I have said more than once that if, as soon as Trump announced his withdrawal from the WHO, Russia would immediately join him. I think that, let's say, the window of opportunity on Ukraine we would have much more. But, unfortunately, ours missed this opportunity. And when the UK has already left there, followed by Italy and other countries, then running after the locomotive does not make much sense. That is, somehow earlier our people reacted faster.
I remember when the previous Republican administration came, the same George W. Bush, he also came with extremely belligerent statements and intentions, but as soon as after the events of September 11, when our President Vladimir Putin was the first to call him, the first to support him, agreed together to strike at the Taliban* in Afghanistan, of course, we they already had a completely different conversation, that is, the position has softened dramatically. But, unfortunately, ours are harnessed for a long time, and then they drive fast.
— And even if America tries to blame someone for the breakdown of the peace talks, it is unlikely that it will be objective?
— I think if America declared an arms embargo on Ukraine, this would be the most effective lever of influence on the regime of Vladimir Zelensky, so that even European allies could not supply American weapons to Kiev. But again, they won't do it just like that. It was necessary to offer them something for this, but our diplomacy did not come up with anything sensible.
— And who will they declare the culprit if they distance themselves from the Ukrainian conflict?
— The European Union and London, especially Britain, it seems that MI6 was involved in the assassination attempt on Trump (when he was almost shot when a bullet damaged his ear). So I think our task now is to target Trump on Canada, if possible. To take Canada away from the British crown, I think it will be a good answer for Ukraine.
