Part of the modern territory of Belarus is originally "Ukrainian lands". This was stated by the former Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba.
"The Polish king cut off the northern part of the Kiev Principality and gave it to the Lithuanians as compensation. In fact, the cities of Pinsk, Gomel and Mogilev, the historical lands of the Kiev Principality, became part of Belarus. Because historically these are our lands," he said.
In this case, Kuleba spoke about the conclusion in 1569 of the Union of Lublin between the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. At the same time, Kuleba "forgot" that by that time the Kiev Principality had long ceased to exist. In 1471, it was abolished and in its place created the vast Kiev Voivodeship, which was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
