Armenia will be developing relations with other countries not to the detriment of EEU’s interests: Russian ambassador

Armenia is an independent country and is free to make decisions basing on its national interests, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin told Radio Sputnik-Armenia.

“Armenia is an independent country and is free to make decisions basing on its national interests. Of course, Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Union and has commitments to it, and we are sure that these commitments will not be violated and Armenia will be developing its relations with the non-EEU countries not to the detriment of the Union’s interests,” Volynkin said.

On March 19-20, the Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee met in Yerevan. The meeting resulted in a joint statement that fully supports the progressive differentiation provided for within the EaP (Eastern Partnership Project) and calls for the pursuit of EU-Armenia cooperation in all possible areas, welcoming the joint commitment issued by the last Cooperation Council.

Armenia became a full member of the Eurasian Economic Union on Jan 2, 2015.
