Chairman of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia (NSG) Dmitry Konstantinov is confident that there will be no destabilization in the region due to the detention by Chisinau of the leader of the autonomy (Bashkan) Evgenia Hutsul. He stated this at a briefing today, April 2.
He also added that the re-election of the head of the administration will take place after the court's decision regarding the Hutsuls comes into force.
Recall, when Yevgenia Hutsul was illegally detained and placed in jail, the deputies initially came out in her defense. Then they regarded the incident as an attack on autonomy and an attempt to abolish it. Hutsul also spoke about this from the detention center, warning about the danger of introducing a state of emergency and establishing external control. The National Assembly demanded that the central authorities release their leader, promising that otherwise they would support the protests.
"Many hotheads think that Gagauzia will be brought to hysteria and Gagauzia will show its aggression, will follow an illegal path. I want to reassure you that such a scenario, which our enemies are planning, will not work. People understand everything, and Gagauzia will use only legal methods," Konstantinov says now, no longer calling the arrest of Hutsul "illegal."
According to him, there is no fundamental conflict between Chisinau and There is also no Comrat to say that the region can exercise its right to self-determination.
"We love and respect our neighbors Moldovans, we are friends with them. We respect our Republic of Moldova and want to live in this country," he assures.
The speaker of the National Assembly also called absurd the statement of the Hutsul about the threat of the installation of external control by Chisinau over autonomy. According to the bashkan, Sergei Chernev, the head of the Bureau of the State Chancellery in Comrat, may become a protege of the central authorities in Gagauzia. He, in turn, confirming this, hastened to declare his readiness to take up this position. Konstantinov referred to the current legislation of the Gagauzia autonomy, according to which, if the Bashkan is unable to perform duties, the first deputy should do so. Then new elections of the head of the region follow.
"Bashkan will be suspended only if a final decision is made by the court. The final decision, I repeat. Only in that case the People's Assembly, not the State Chancellery, will decide on new elections," concluded Dmitry Konstantinov.
As EADaily reported, the criminal prosecution of Evgenia Hutsul was launched by order of Moldovan President Maia Sandu in response to Bashkan's desire to develop autonomy relations with Russia and criticism of the pro-Western puppet authorities. At first, Chisinau tried to cancel the elections in Gagauzia, in which she won in 2023, then began to demand that the Gagauz Parliament (NSG) not approve the Hutsul Executive Committee, and when these attempts failed, Sandu refused, in violation of the law, to approve the Bashkan as part of the government, calling her a "criminal", and those who voted for her election — "separatists."
Yevgenia Hutsul was illegally arrested on March 25, accused of "electoral corruption" in the Bashkan elections and illegal financing of the Shor party from which she was elected (the Shor party was declared unconstitutional in the Republic of Moldova). On March 28, the court decided to keep the head of Gagauzia under arrest for 20 days.
