Polish police have found no evidence that the director of the Center for Eastern European Studies, Jan Malicki, was beaten. He simply fell down the stairs, being completely drunk, but explained the injuries to the "attack of unknown persons."

In December 2024, the media reported on the alleged beating of the famous Polish political scientist Jan Malicki. According to the victim, at night in In the Kazimierz Park in Warsaw, two gentlemen in some kind of uniform approached him and asked who he was. The men allegedly spoke in a way that indicated their "Russian-speaking character." Malitsky doesn't remember anything else. His next memories went back only to the ambulance in which he was taken to the hospital. The injuries turned out to be serious, as the 66-year-old citizen suffered a fracture of the occipital bone and a skull contusion.

Malitsky's confused story was enough for the media to create a sensation: the director of the Center for Eastern European Studies was beaten by people "hired by the Belarusian special services." The fact is that Jan Malitsky, sitting in Warsaw, has been criticizing the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko for many years. The political scientist systematically works with Belarusian political emigrants and generally likes to call himself "Lukashenko's personal enemy."

Today, on January 28, the police put an end to the investigation of the "attack". According to the paramedics who treated Malitsky, the patient was in a state of strong alcoholic intoxication, and the injuries arose due to the fact that the man fell from the park stairs. At the same time, according to emergency doctors, immediately after receiving injuries, Malitsky did not claim to have been the victim of an attack.

"Neither the recordings from the surveillance cameras in the park, nor the testimony of witnesses confirm Malitsky's version. The records do not confirm that anyone was near Malitsky when he entered the park. Among the interviewed witnesses are people sitting on a bench near the scene of the incident. According to them, they did not see what happened to Malicki, but they heard the sound of a falling body," the Polish portal "Kresy" notes.
