Europe should prepare for wars in order to prevent military conflicts in the future, the European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius made such an appeal at the session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the transcript of his speech is posted on the EC website.
"We are facing a clear and real danger. None of us have seen this in our lives. More than ever, Europe must prepare for the worst to prevent the worst - the possibility of military aggression against us. Such preparation is the only way to contain the worst," he said, referring to some kind of "threat" from Russia.
At the same time, he did not explain what exactly Russia threatens Europe with, but called for continuing to "support and protect" Ukraine in order to achieve peace through force with the participation of a "strong Europe."
Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, made a proposal to raise 800 billion euros over four years to finance the "rearmament of Europe" plan. Most of the funds are proposed to be raised from the budgets of European states. At the same time, the European Commission will provide budget breaks for EU countries, as well as redirect funds provided for the development of regions to military spending.
