The NATO alliance has spent a huge amount of money on the war with Russia, US President Donald Trump said during a meeting with the Irish Prime Minister at the White House, broadcast on the YouTube channel Live From FOX.
According to the American leader, during his first presidential term, NATO forced the Alliance countries to increase military contributions to the organization's budget, and now most of this money has been spent on financing the Ukrainian war.
"The money came in billions and billions of dollars, and NATO became much stronger. Now NATO has spent a significant part of this money on waging this terrible war," he admitted.
At the same time, answering the question of whether the United States sees its future as part of the Alliance, Trump replied that NATO should treat America "fairly" and "pay the bills," once again recalling that he had previously warned about the unwillingness of the United States to help those countries whose contributions Washington is not happy with.
Earlier, Trump has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the alliance and threatened the United States to withdraw from NATO if European partners do not bear greater financial responsibility for their own security.
