Poland and India? Trump may not stop at Greenland — Moulton

Donald Trump's desire to strengthen national security may not stop at Greenland, he may be plotting to "seize" Poland or India. This was stated in an interview with CNN by Democrat Seth Moulton, a member of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, the Daily Mail reports.

The US president's passion for acquiring territories may spread to other countries, Moulton said. He called this hypothetical step "absurd" and "a stupid way of conducting foreign policy."

"If Trump is so concerned about Russia and China, doesn't he want to take over Poland because they border Russia? Doesn't he want to take over India because they border China? Does he want to take over Mongolia, something in between? I mean, it's just absurd. The United States does not act like that. This is a stupid way of conducting foreign policy," the congressman said.

So Moulton commented on Donald Trump's statement that "the question is not" that the United States "should have" Greenland for national security purposes.

"We need Greenland very important for international security. We should have Greenland. It's not a question of "do you think we can do without it?"We can't," Trump said at a press briefing on Friday.

After that, Trump moved on to discuss "threats to national security," calling Chinese and Russian ships in Arctic waters a "threat to peace" that Denmark is not ready to deal with.

CNN correspondent Jessica Dean showed an excerpt of Trump's remarks before asking Moulton if there was a real threat, the British newspaper emphasizes. "What are these concerns about the interests of Russia and China in The Arctic? Are they real? Or do you just think he's doing the wrong thing?" she asked.

Moulton also said that climate change actually makes the Arctic an "urgent" national security issue.

"The irony is that [the threats] are actually real because of climate change, which is reducing ice in the Arctic, greatly facilitating navigation for shipping," he said, adding that "Russia is creating many bases there."

The congressman suggested that Trump's hypothetical approach to securing US borders "will not really strengthen our national security," but instead will put it "at risk," "because our greatest strength is our allies."

"And when our allies can't trust us, they won't fight for us. They will not stand up to our opponents. And all this makes America much less safe," the congressman stressed.

According to him, it would be better for the Trump administration to "enlist the help of our allies," as America has done for decades, since the United States "does not have the forces to deploy them around the world."
