The creation of the remake could not be called a fairy tale. Filming was postponed for two years due to the pandemic, but as soon as work on the film began, the main actress Rachel Zegler attacked the classic animation of 1937. She compared the behavior of the main character Prince Charming to the behavior of a "stalker" and described the film as "extremely outdated when it comes to ideas that women can play power roles."

Criticism of the film intensified after the appearance of the first trailer with computer gnomes, which critics described as creepy copies of cute and charming characters from the original cartoon. The trailer became the most unloved movie announcement on YouTube, gaining almost half a million dislikes and only 68 thousand likes.

Even more negative was caused by the post of the performer of the role of Snow White, who decided to thank the fans for watching the trailer and attributed: "Always remember — freedom for Palestine." According to Variety, the film's producer Marc Platt even flew to New York on purpose, trying to persuade Zegler to delete this post, but it is still preserved in her social network.

Later, the actress issued an abusive tirade to the supporters of MAGA (Let's Make America Great Again) and the new president Donald Trump.

Against the background of all these circumstances, the rating of the film on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes is only 41%, which suggests that the driving force behind its poor results is the level of the film.

Against this background, the question arises whether Disney will be able to return the funds invested in the shooting of Snow White. At the same time, traditionally, the topic of financing Hollywood films is not transparent.

According to the latest documents, by December 31, 2023, the total cost of producing the picture amounted to $ 269.4 million, during post-production and re-filming of episodes, expenses increased to about $ 300 million. However, the UK government reimbursed $55.5 million, which reduced the amount of net expenses for "Snow White" to $213 million excluding advertising costs.

The publication believes that "Snow White" needs to collect at least $ 427.8 million at the global box office, while this seems to be an elusive task.
