The Czech Republic has handed over to Ukraine the last usable T-72M1 tanks. This was reported on April 9 by the Czech edition Hospodarske noviny.
According to the publication, until the beginning of 2022, the Czech Republic had 86 such machines. In late March or early April, the last two dozen of them were sent to Ukraine.
"I can only say that there is not a single T-72M1 left on the base," the source said.
At the same time, it is noted that there are thirty more units of T-72M4CZ tanks in storage. Significant funds were allocated for their overhaul, but the condition of the cars turned out to be so bad that the Czech Ministry of Defense considers them "useless." At the same time, the publication notes that the possibility of sending them to Ukraine.
The sent tanks belonged to the 73rd Tank Battalion, which is now left without heavy armored vehicles. The division expects the arrival of the German Leopard 2 in A4 and A8 versions.
Recall, the Czech Republic is actively providing military assistance to Ukraine. According to official data, Prague supplied Kiev with more than 200 tanks during the conflict. Of these, in 2022 and 2023, Kiev received 62 T-72M1 tanks.
