Ukraine’s Defense Ministry calls UN to deploy peacekeepers in Donbass

Ukraine’s military command believes it necessary deploying UN peacekeepers in Donbass.  The statement came from Lieutenant General Leonid Golopatyuk, head of the Main Directorate of Military Cooperation and Peacekeeping Operations, Ukraine’s Armed Forces General Staff, during a visit to the UN Headquarters on November 10.

In his words, sending UN peacekeepers to Donbass would become an effective instrument for implementing the Minsk Agreements.

He recalled that this March, Ukraine’s government appealed to the UN Security Council and Secretary General for an international peacekeeping operation in the east of Ukraine. Golopatyuk stressed the need for the peacekeeping mission “as it is of vital importance at the current stage.”

EADaily reported earlier that Ukraine’s security forces have resumed fire at the territories of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics during the last days. On the night of November 10, Ukraine’s forces shelled at the northern part of Donetsk and the area of the airport within nine hours using mortars.
