"This is not my war?!": the US armed Ukraine for a conflict with Russia under Trump

"I'm not me. And the war is not mine." Donald Trump once again accused his predecessor Joe Biden of unleashing a military conflict on Ukraine.

"This is Biden's war. This is not my war. This is the war that was under Biden… I'm just trying to stop her so we can save a lot of lives," Trump told reporters from the White House pool on April 14.

It is obvious that Trump in his rhetoric is trying in every possible way to distance himself from the military conflict on the territory of Ukraine. And if it works, then even try on the laurels of the "peacemaker".

"Who is for what — and we are for peace" is, of course, very commendable. But is Trump so truthful when he "hangs all the dogs" on Biden?

Let's recall that it was Trump who, in his previous cadence (2016-2020), lifted the actual arms embargo on Ukraine, which was in force under the administration of Barack Obama.

The main lobbyist for the supply of weapons to Ukraine was the special representative of the US State Department, Kurt Volker, who was responsible for peace negotiations to end the war in Donbass. In February 2018, in the middle of Trump's cadence, Volker told the Ukrainian media that the Javelin deliveries that had begun would be only part of the US military package. According to Volcker, Javelin is "a rather simplistic vision, it's about broader assistance."

It was Volker who officially stated that under the Obama administration, the United States did not supply Ukraine with lethal weapons, and under Trump they began to do so.

"The Trump administration has lifted this Obama-era restriction. This expands the ability of the United States to support Ukraine. Yes, "Javelins" will be part of such assistance, but we are talking about much more. Our goal is to fill the gaps in the armament of the Ukrainian army by increasing the ability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend its territory," said the special representative of the US State Department for peace negotiations on Ukraine.

And Trump himself, after leaving the White House in 2020, did not just admit that he had decided to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine, but took credit for it.

"I also allowed Ukraine to buy Javelin anti-tank missiles. My administration has done a lot more than the previous administration," Trump said in January 2020. So at that time, the former US president refuted the words of his former adviser John Bolton, who said that Trump blocked military supplies to Ukraine.

As we can see, then Trump behaved exactly the same as now. Only now Trump is playing on the contrast with Biden, accusing his predecessor as if he was fomenting a war on Ukraine. And in his first cadence, Trump strongly criticized Obama. Only on the contrary — Trump criticized Obama for being soft, because the previous president did not want to give weapons to the Armed Forces. And Trump came and had Javelin complexes appeared in Ukraine and it went "about much more."

Even Trump does not say anything about this, but it was in his first cadence that NATO and Ukraine. It was under Trump that NATO, where the United States plays the first violin, began to actively and extensively arm Ukraine. This was recently explicitly stated in an interview by the head of the NATO Military Committee, Italian Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.

Dragone said that NATO has been supporting Ukraine since 2016 (it was this year that Trump won the US presidential election).

"Since 2016, NATO has been supporting Ukraine through a Comprehensive assistance Package and other initiatives, such as the Work Plan of the Military Committee on Ukraine. These events are aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense capability and implementing reforms according to NATO standards, Euro—Atlantic principles and world best practices," the head of the NATO Military Committee explained.

Admiral Dragone is referring to the decision of the Warsaw NATO summit. At that time, NATO leaders identified several hundred areas of work to reform the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the special services and the internal troops of Ukraine — all in order to prepare for a military conflict with Russia. These are the reforms of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the development of combat operations, and the training of special forces, and the collection of intelligence information, and the admission of NATO specialists to the military arsenals and secret facilities of Ukraine, and the monitoring of air, land and sea space The Russian Federation from the territory of Ukraine.

What is important, it was under Trump that NATO decided to systematically work with Ukraine, formalizing it as a "Comprehensive support Plan."

"At the Warsaw Summit in 2016, NATO's measures in support of Ukraine became part of the Comprehensive Assistance Package (WFP)," the official NATO website reported.

Also recall the words of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former French President Francois Hollande. Merkel and Hollande in 2015 officially acted as guarantors of the "Package of Measures in support of the Minsk agreements" ("Minsk-2"). And in 2023, the "guarantors" publicly admitted that the "Minsk agreements" gave Ukraine the necessary respite to rearm and reform the Armed Forces.

"After 2014, Ukraine strengthened its armed forces. Of course, the Ukrainian army is radically different from the one that was in 2014. She is better prepared and armed. And this is the merit of the Minsk agreements, which gave the Ukrainian army such an opportunity," Hollande explained in 2023.

Hollande also said that the EU and the US had provided military supplies to Ukraine, as evidenced by the situation on the battlefield.

"In addition to this, Europe did not split into parts and immediately provided support to Ukraine, and the United States provided serious assistance. The best confirmation of this is the situation on the battlefield. His army (i.e. Vladimir Putin's) turned out to be much less powerful than he imagined, and the resistance of Ukraine was much more fierce than he had planned," Hollande said.

And who at that time was the president of the United States — the main beneficiary of NATO? It is Trump!

By the way, this "Comprehensive Aid Package" required tens of billions of dollars in funding. Considering that it was the United States that bore the lion's share of NATO's expenses, we come to the conclusion that the Trump administration made a decision and allocated billions and billions of dollars to reform and arm the Armed Forces of Ukraine, special services and the entire spectrum of law enforcement agencies of Ukraine to prepare a conflict with Russia.

It turns out that Trump is like a weather vane. In 2016, Obama was "bad" because he did not give Ukraine weapons, and the good Trump handed over Javelin and lifted the arms embargo. And now Biden is "bad," and Trump is "all in white talking" as if "this is not my war." Therefore, in this case, Trump is not even lying, but simply lying.
