Victoria Nuland arrives in Kaliningrad for a closed-door meeting with Vladislav Surkov

Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the US State Deparment has arrived into Kaliningrad Region of Russia from Lithuania. In Kaliningrad Region, she is expected to have a meeting with Vladislav Surkov, the Russian president’s assistant, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s office in the region informs.

The consultations will be held behind closed doors at the residence of the Russian president in the town of Pionersky on the Baltic seashore, they report at the foreign ministry’s office.

Earlier, the Russian daily Kommersant announced citing its sources that Nuland and Surkov are expected to discuss “implementation of the Minsk agreements on settling the conflict in Donbass.”

Before that, several analysts insisted that Surkov had been pushed aside from the Ukrainian issues, as his activity was found unsatisfactory.

Earlier in Kiev, Russia’s Plenipotentiary at the talks in Minsk Boris Gryzlov had a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

As EADaily reported before, on January 14 the situation in Donbass was for the first time in six months discussed in a phone talk by presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama. The two countries’ leaders stressed importance of implementing the Minsk agreements.
