Georgian Dream Party: Saakashvili’s Party instigating confrontation

Candidate for parliament from the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia Party and the former adviser to the ex-prime minister of Georgia Tamar Chugoshvili has accused the United National Movement (UNM), the opposition party of the ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, in plotting provocations and confrontation ahead of the parliamentary elections in the country.

“The United National Movement that obviously loses the future parliamentary elections and lacks public support sees its only chance in provoking disorders of certain type. As far as I know, they plan to provoke various confrontations at our events and at the events in our support, as well as to bring tensions and confrontation in the election campaign in an organized way,” she said.

In her words, it is very important for Georgia to hold “maximum peaceful elections,” and not only the ruling party but also other political forces are responsible for it. She addressed the observation organizations urging them to “focus on such facts and incidents that may affect the peaceful nature of elections.”

Chugoshvili also urged the supporters of her Party to refrain from provocations and not to yield to the provocations by others.

In response, candidate for the parliament from the United National Movement Salome Samadashvili said the Georgian Dream Party “has nothing to tell to the Georgian people, so it decided to start campaigning with absurd blames.” In her words, the Georgian Dream has made sure that the United National Movement is the only political force in the country to have a plan of bringing the country out of the crisis. That is why the ruling party tries to hold the opposition from campaigning by all means possible, she said.

On September 5, ex-prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili came out with similar accusations against the United National Movement (UNM). He told journalists that the ex-president Saakashvili “instigates” his supporters “to make disorders in the pre-election period and plots a power change in Georgia through a revolution.”

Head of the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia Party’s campaign headquarters Kakha Kaladze said “a certain organization has been set up to help them (UNM) organize certain disorders.”

The third president of Georgia, the founder of the UNM Mikheil Saakashvili, came out in support of his loyalists. “Ivanishvili and his puppets say we are plotting a revolt. As a rule, he accuses his opponents of what he has planned himself,” Saakashvili posted on Facebook.
