Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump are experiencing difficulties in contacting each other, former president and leader of the European Solidarity opposition party Petro Poroshenko said in an interview with the Public.

"I regret that Zelensky will not attend the inauguration and did not receive an invitation," the politician said.

Poroshenko added that Trump "needs to be motivated and learn to speak a language that is understandable to him."

"It was Trump who applied sanctions against Nord Stream. It is necessary and possible to work with Trump. It can be pro—Ukrainian and it can be anti-Ukrainian," he said.

In mid-December, Trump said he had not invited Zelensky to the inauguration ceremony, but he could attend the inauguration if he wanted.

Zelensky explained that there is no tradition of inviting foreign leaders to the inauguration in the United States, and he does not intend to come anywhere without an invitation. He also recalled the need to ensure his safety by the US Secret Service.
