Lithuania has received a proposal from the Belarusian Railway to restore passenger rail service between the countries. This was reported in the Lithuanian Ministry of Communications.

"The offer has been received. It is discussed by the responsible authorities. When the final decision is made, we will inform the public," said Ministry spokesman Lukas Paskevicius.

Lithuania has stopped rail passenger flights to Belarus in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic. Minsk offered several times to start the trains again, but was refused. In April it became known that the Belarusian Railway appealed to the neighboring countries of the EU with a proposal to restore direct passenger rail service. Poland and Latvia also received such offers.
