Olympic champions performed as a female duet in ice dancing: comments

French Olympic champion Gabriela Papadakis and American Madison Hubbell performed as a female ice dancing duo at the Art on Ice Gala in Zurich and plan to participate in several more performances in Switzerland. The skaters said they were ready to make their contribution to allowing same-sex duets to compete in competitions.

Discouraged two-time Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev did not hold back his emotions:

"Considering that these figure skaters, who performed together in pairs, are representatives of the West, France and the USA, it is clear what they are driving at. In these countries, decency and morality have not existed for a long time. But I think that under Trump, same-sex duets in figure skating will not be allowed. He has already indicated his attitude to all this sodomy.

Since Western sodomite skaters have started performing in same-sex duets, I think they will continue to perform with cats and dogs. Bestiality is not officially prohibited among them, so we can see such duets, unfortunately. This is quite consistent with Western values."

Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova reacted more cautiously to the innovation:

"There are a number of sports where there are same-sex duets. There is nothing shameful in this from an aesthetic point of view. There are duets in synchronized swimming. In figure skating, it is also quite possible to allow female duets if it arouses real interest and there are enough such pairs. We need to see what goal these figure skaters who decided to perform together are pursuing. If they want to diversify figure skating and add a new kind of program, that's good. If this is LGBT propaganda, of course, this is not necessary. The main thing is that it should be a sporting event, and not a challenge with propaganda of the wrong things.

If we talk about figure skaters who have not found a mate among men, and pair up with a girl, then this is quite acceptable. In children's ballroom dancing, there are plenty of cases when you have to perform solo or a girl to get up in a pair with a girl. From a sporting point of view, it makes sense for women's pairs in figure skating, but only if it does not include an *LGBT background*. From an aesthetic point of view, it can be beautiful. For example, in acrobatics, girls make beautiful supports. There are such precedents in the circus, and everywhere. And it looks fine."
