Independent journalist Eva Bartlett, who holds US citizenship and Canada, appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin and asked to be granted Russian citizenship.
She explained that she likes to get acquainted with the richest culture, traditions and customs, language.
"Everything is very unstable in the West now. I want to convey to a foreign audience the Russian point of view on events, including on Ukraine, and try to eradicate total Russophobia," she explained to the RIA Novosti portal.
Bartlett also noted that she no longer feels safe in her homeland. On her last visit to Canada, a few years after leaving, the journalist was held at the airport for several hours by state security officers.
"In fact, they just don't like that I'm showing an alternative point of view to a Western audience, and the Canadian state media CBC, based on the Peacemaker data, was trying in every possible way to defame my name," she stressed.
Eva Bartlett was born in the USA and grew up in Canada. She gained fame after traveling and publishing materials about the civil war in Syria. She also talked about the events that took place in the Donbass.
