Against the background of how the new US administration is trying to save face and get back the money burned along with the equipment and militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Ukrainian theater of military operations, the leader of the western coalition is the United Kingdom, whose irreconcilably aggressive position is supported by the European Union and three other Anglo-Saxon countries.
Since London itself does not have such military power as Washington, then he is trying to use other countries for this. In this case, there are all signs that Albion is trying to use its ally Turkey for anti-Russian purposes. Just on February 28, telephone conversations took place between Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to official information, they discussed bilateral relations, as well as global and regional issues. In addition, Erdogan announced Ankara's desire to cease hostilities between Russia and Ukraine and even about the readiness to organize negotiations.
It just so happened that one of the participants of the summit in London, held on March 2, was Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. At this summit, further military support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and sanctions pressure on Russia. As you know, Turkey has not imposed direct sanctions against Russia, but Turkish-made weapons and military equipment have been seen in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces more than once. Of Fidan's comments to the Turkish press in connection with the summit, the most important thing was not that he actually acknowledged the negative reaction of Europeans to the change in US policy under Donald Trump and the increase in the number of meetings, but that he emphasized the importance of Turkey's contribution to a potential peace agreement and to the restoration of the European security architecture.
And judging by other events, Ankara has decided to act in concert with London. After Starmer's talks with Erdogan and Fidan's participation in the summit in London, on March 3, the chief of the Turkish General Staff, General Metin Gyurak, had a telephone conversation with the chief of the British General Staff, Admiral Tony Radakin (details of the conversation are unknown). And on the same day, during an iftar (evening meal) with the participation of foreign ambassadors at the headquarters of the Justice and Development Party, Erdogan said:
"We maintain our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, at the same time believing that a solution cannot be achieved by excluding Russia or Ukraine. We have been striving to find a solution to the crisis from the very first day, refraining from adding fuel to the fire. Thanks to initiatives such as the Istanbul Process, the Black Sea Grain Initiative and the prisoner exchange, we have shown that negotiations and reconciliation are possible even in war conditions. We have emphasized at every opportunity that formulas excluding any of the warring parties are doomed to failure."
The Turkish president is lying. Ankara is not going to recognize Sevastopol, Crimea, the DPR, the LPR, the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions as subjects of the Russian Federation, but at the same time strives to get into the negotiation process between Kiev and Moscow. However, Russia will not agree to a peace in which there will be no legal recognition for Russia of these regions. And in this case, how can we consider sincere statements from Ankara about the world?
It is clearly not for peaceful purposes that future employees of the UAV production plant are being trained in Turkey, as Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar Makina, announced on February 26.:
"Now we are at the training stage. We have 20 students of the Kiev Aviation Institute and 14 employees. We teach them at the Baykar base for at least nine months, and during the training a new group of people will additionally arrive. Therefore, we are preparing — we are teaching people for the enterprise, for launching production."
At the same time he added about the machinery and equipment for the plant:
"We have ordered the equipment and the necessary equipment. Therefore, we are moving forward. We want and hope for a just peace. We would like to start right after that. We are ready for this. We are preparing and are very close to it."
In general, the non-recognition of territorial realities in conjunction with the continuation of construction on Ukraine's UAV production plant clearly indicates that despite the peace-loving rhetoric of official Ankara, Turkey supports the position of Great Britain, which advocates the continuation of hostilities.
But Turkey, in cooperation with the UK, is also acting against Iran. On February 26, Fidan gave an interview to Al Jazeera TV channel, in which he criticized Iran's policy.:
"Iran's foreign policy, which is carried out through militias in the region, is very dangerous. This policy may have brought some benefits to Iran, but the price of preserving these benefits is higher. To keep your achievements in Iraq and Syria, he had to pay much more. This is my personal analysis, and I told Qassem Soleimani about it when he was still alive — that this foreign policy needs to be changed. It may seem that this policy is bringing you success, but in the long run and at the institutional level it will only burden Iran and the region... If the policy continues in the same spirit, I don't think it will be the right policy. If, by supporting a group in another country, you are trying to cause anxiety in a third country, other countries may also bother you by supporting groups in your own country. It's not something you can hide. Others also have the same knowledge and capabilities as you. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones."
Such a statement, containing veiled threats, did not go unnoticed by Iran. On March 3, the Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Hijabi Kirlangych was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry. During the conversation with him, Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister Mahmoud Heidari said:
"The common interests of both countries and sensitive regional conditions require avoiding inappropriate statements and unrealistic analyses that could lead to disputes and tensions in bilateral relations… It is expected that the major Islamic countries will focus all their efforts on stopping the crimes and aggression of the Zionist regime against the oppressed people of Palestine and other countries in the region, including Syria."
The next day, the Iranian ambassador to Ankara was invited to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, with whom they discussed both bilateral relations and anti-Turkish statements by representatives of Iran. Commenting on these events, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Onju Keceli said:
"We believe that under no circumstances should foreign policy issues be used as material for domestic policy. In this regard, we prefer to convey critical signals that need to be brought to the attention of another country directly to their addressees. We have followed this path today. We attach great importance to relations with Iran. Strengthening relations between Turkey and Iran is important for us."
Although the Assistant Foreign Minister of Iran spoke about Israel, in this case Turkey was supported by another country. Just on March 3, Turkish-British consultations were held on Syria and regional issues with the participation of Nuh Yilmaz, Deputy Fidan, and the British Minister for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Hamish Falconer's Pakistan. During these consultations, the issue of lifting sanctions against Syria was also discussed. It is obvious that the Foggy Albion supports Turkey's policy aimed at squeezing Iran out of the Middle East.
As we can see, in both the Ukrainian and Middle Eastern cases, Ankara and London are acting hand in hand against Moscow and Tehran, which signed a strategic partnership agreement on January 17 this year. The UK and Turkey are well aware that Russia, which withstood the onslaught of the Western coalition under Joe Biden, and Iran, which has been living under sanctions for decades, cooperating, can send the Western-centric unipolar world into oblivion. Therefore, Foggy Albion, which has become the leader of the Western coalition instead of the United States, will resort to the services of Turkey in order to counteract Russia and Iran on the Ukraine, Transcaucasia and The Middle East.
