Director Alexey German Jr. commented on the statements of his colleague Sarik Andreasyan, who spoke negatively about the work of Andrei Tarkovsky (1932-1986) at a meeting with students of the Moscow International Film School. Herman's words are quoted by the NSN portal.

"Sarik Andreasyan should not say such things, because he has now made a commercial film "Love and Music", which did not go very well at the box office, and the author's film "Air", which was not positioned as a commercial project, raised much more money. The director has no right to insult colleagues, to talk about them in such a tone. It's gross, it's gross, it looks pathetic. In addition, the director must have respect for those great creators, such as Tarkovsky, who in many ways shaped Russian culture. With all due respect, Andreasyan's entire work — all past and future work — is not worth five minutes of Tarkovsky's film. Everyone understands this, I think even Sarik himself. Perhaps he is tired after work or just so arranged. However, it is obvious that this is his personal opinion, which has nothing to do with the truth, with the universe, with everything in general," Herman Jr. is sure.

In his opinion, Andreasyan's words will lead to the fact that many will laugh at him, because in There are no directors of Tarkovsky's level in Russia today, whose films have had a significant impact on the entire world cinema.

"Many people are sick of the books of the philosopher Berdyaev, because they seem too complicated to them. Someone feels bad from the magnitude of the novel "War and Peace", it is difficult for many to read the poems of Mandelstam or Blok, and the great poet Mayakovsky seems strange at all. In such a situation, you need to understand if you are an idiot, which is quite possible if you can't read War and Peace. Sarik's statement is idiotic, harmful to Sarik himself, because they will laugh at him. There are a lot of Andreasyan—level directors in Russia who make films or not - nothing changes in the world. Unfortunately, there are no directors of Tarkovsky's level in our country. We have lost our cinema language, our great cinema," Herman concluded.

As EADaily reported, a dispute with film school students broke out after a question from one of the lecture participants about author's cinema.

"A movie that is not made for money is not interesting to you?" — the girl asked.

After that, the participants mentioned the movie "Anora" by Sean Baker, which won five Oscars, and at the same time is an independent film. As a result, the confrontation grew, Andreasyan, in irritation, declared that he hated Tarkovsky, seasoning his speech with strong expressions.

After the scandal, Andreasyan noted that he does not give up his opinion, it has been formed for a long time, and all film universities in Russia need reform.
