Escaped the trap: Ukraine issued a reaction to Putin's statement on the truce

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not offer the "best" option for a truce, but the Americans will take with them counter proposals that are not feasible. This is reported by the Ukrainian media and public, commenting on today's statement by the leader of Russia on the truce with Ukraine.

Putin said he was ready for a cease-fire, but on his own terms, Ukrainian resources note.

At the same time, it is important that these conditions did not include, at least so far, demands that are obviously unacceptable for Ukraine and the United States, such as the transfer of the entire territory of the four regions to Russia's control and Ukraine's recognition of the Russian status of the territories, the Strana newspaper writes, in particular.

"Of the conditions that the Russian president has named, there are two specific ones: stopping the supply of weapons to Kiev and stopping the mobilization for Ukraine. We can immediately say that Kiev will be harshly against both conditions. For the sake of resuming US aid, Ukraine, in principle, signed up for a truce, although it was not going to do so initially. Also (head of the Kiev regime Vladimir) Zelensky is unlikely to plan the cessation of mobilization. But if we talk about the Americans, it is far from a fact that they will discard Putin's conditions on the spot. Administration (Donald) Trump has long criticized both the supply of weapons to Kiev and the mobilization for Ukraine. That is, these conditions, from the American point of view, can clearly be discussed," the publication emphasizes.

It is noted that so far there has been no reaction from the United States to Putin's statements, but it is obvious that what he said "does not look like a refusal to Trump, therefore, most likely, negotiations on a truce mechanism will begin further."

"And so far, the hopes of the Ukrainian authorities, the Western and Russian "war parties" that Putin will immediately abandon the ceasefire have not been fulfilled," the Strana concludes.
