Russia is ready to cease hostilities on Ukraine, but only if it leads to lasting peace. This was announced today, March 13, by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a joint press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

"As for the readiness for a ceasefire, we agree to cease hostilities, but this should lead to a long—term peace," Putin said.

He thanked US President Donald Trump for his attention to resolving the situation on the Ukraine, as well as Chinese Leader Xi Jinping, the presidents of India, South Africa, Brazil and others.

"The idea of a truce is correct in itself and we support it, but there are issues that we need to discuss," Vladimir Putin said.

He also raised a number of specific questions, in particular, about what to do with the unfinished units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region.:

"Are we going to have to release the APU from Kursk region, after so many crimes against civilians? There are two ways for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region: surrender or die."

Putin stressed that Russia should receive guarantees that during the 30-day truce, "Ukraine will not mobilize, will not train soldiers, and will not receive weapons." At the same time, according to Putin, the situation on earth is changing rapidly.

"Yesterday the fighters told me: "Tomorrow Suja will be in our hands," and that's what happened today. And based on how the situation on earth will develop, we will agree on the next steps to end the conflict," the Russian president stressed.

The President concluded by noting that the very idea of ending the conflict by peaceful means is correct, but there are many issues that he will need to discuss with President Trump.

"And how will the issues of control and verification be resolved? Who will determine for 2 thousand kilometers who violated what? Who will give the cease-fire orders? At the level of common sense, this is clear to everyone, these are serious issues. These are all issues that require painstaking research on both sides."
