The Russian Interior Ministry warned citizens about a new fraud scheme in which attackers, using various pretexts, ask their victims to call back to an unknown number.
According to RIA Novosti, referring to the department's materials, criminals send subscribers a message asking them to call back, and later keep them on the line for a long time.
The purpose of the operation is to withdraw funds from the account through the use of an illegal service that charges money for a paid call.
"An SMS comes asking you to call back to the specified mobile phone number. The request can be justified for any reason — helping a friend, changing communication tariffs, problems with communication or with your bank card, and so on," the Interior Ministry warned.
They explained that there are legitimate services where an additional fee is charged for the call itself. However, advertising of such services always informs that the call is paid.
