EU policy has led to the "desertification" of member states: Meloni v. von der Leyen

The parties of the center-right coalition in Italy have summarized their political positions on twelve points in preparation for the next meeting of the European Council. They were detailed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in the upper house of the Italian Parliament on Tuesday, March 18. Thus, the Prime Minister outlined the political line of her government. The discussion will continue on Wednesday in the lower house.

Both houses of parliament will vote on a twelve-point resolution jointly prepared by the parties of the government coalition.: "Brothers of Italy" (FDI), "League" and "Forward, Italy" (FI).

These items correspond to the topics of the next meeting of the heads of state and Government of the EU member states, namely, among others: Ukraine, the Middle East, competitiveness, European defense, multi-year budget, migration. The joint resolution is designed to emphasize the unity of the Italian ruling parties.

On the main point — disagreements with the United States over the policies of President Donald Trump, Georgia Meloni, in a speech on Tuesday, said that the alliance between the European Union and The United States of America cannot be split by either defense or economic disagreements.

She called the imposition of tariffs in response to the new customs policy of the United States unacceptable for the European Union.

"We need a decision based on common sense. We need logic, not instinctive reactions," she said.

Meloni noted that "we live in difficult times when the best decisions for the nation must be made with a sense of responsibility and realism."

Meloni also believes that the traditional alliance between EU and The United States should not be disturbed by disagreements over Ukraine.

Meloni stressed that the ceasefire plans during the more than three-year war in Ukraine initiated by US President Donald Trump represent the "first significant step forward" that Europe should support.

"It is naive and crazy to think that Europe can offer guarantees of protection without the United States," Georgia Meloni said. She added that those who foment a split between Europe and The United States does not understand that the US election campaign is over and Trump has become president.

Further, Georgia Meloni stated that the dispatch of Italian troops to Ukraine has never been on the agenda, and that sending European troops, as demanded by the British and French press, would be "dangerous and ineffective."

Meloni said that the very name of the European Commission's rearmament plan is incorrect, since increasing defense capability does not automatically mean arming, but equally applies to border protection, the fight against terrorism, cybersecurity, data and energy transmission underwater at sea.

On another point in her speech, Georgia Meloni noted that competitiveness is not a "vague, abstract" theory, but the maintenance of the production system, the cessation of emigration of young people who are able to work, and the protection of values.

According to the Prime Minister, the EU's industrial and technological policy has led to the "desertification" of member states. Therefore, Meloni noted, Europeans need a paradigm shift without the excesses of the "green ideology."

Here she also pointed out that an "over-regulated" Europe is mistaken if it thinks it can survive without a new perspective.

"We should be led by politicians, not bureaucracy. Otherwise, Europe will not be able to avoid suffocation by its own rules," the Italian prime minister summed up.

Meloni also called for a change of views on European migration policy, stressing that only stopping illegal entries can reduce the number of people missing at sea and can counteract the speculation of human traffickers.

"Europe must act effectively. Illegal migrants cannot stay on its territory, they must be deported," Meloni said on this point of the government program.

Thus, we note that Meloni challenged the head of the European Commission, Ursula von dar Leyen, who is actively promoting the so-called plan of the European Commission for the rearmament of 800 billion euros.
