Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan Kamchibek Tashiev suggested calling the walnut "Kyrgyz". This is reported by IA 24.kg .

"We have been growing nuts for thousands of years. We have the largest plantation in the world in Arslanbob, not by Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia or the continent. Nowhere in the world is there such a large area of walnut forests. We live in such a unique place. The nut has spread around the world from Kyrgyzstan, and then it began to be called Greek, Turkish, Spanish, and Hungarian. But in fact the nut has spread from Kyrgyzstan. Therefore, we should call it Kyrgyz, not Greek," Tashiev said.

According to the agency, in the Jalal-Abad region in the south of the republic, at the initiative of Tashiev, 40 thousand seedlings began to be planted on 100 hectares of desert territory. According to the updated information, among them are seven types of trees — walnut, pistachio tree, almond tree, apple, pine, apricot, conifers and hardwoods.

Earlier, the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry reported that it is developing a brand of Kyrgyz walnut. It was noted in the statement that, as wild walnut grows in Kyrgyzstan, it does not grow in any other country in the world.

According to the ministry, the area of walnut forests in the republic occupies 45 thousand hectares. According to the website open.kg Only in the valley of the Arslanbob river the area of walnut forests is more than 600 thousand hectares.

The precedent of renaming the names used for centuries was created by the head of the White House, Donald Trump, by whose decree the Gulf of Mexico in the United States is now called "American."
