Two-time Olympic champion, six-time world championship winner Abdulrashid Sadulayev issued a statement in connection with the non-admission to the European Championships. Earlier it became known that the Russian will not perform at the World Championships in Bratislava due to the refusal to issue a visa.
"Assalamu alaikum to all my fans! With great regret, I want to inform you that the European Championship starting tomorrow will still be held without my participation.
History repeats itself — I was charged, focused and ready, but I never got the go-ahead to enter the Slovakia. There are so many questions in this story and so few answers. I am convinced of one thing for sure — everything happens according to the Will of the Lord. That's why we are men, in order to pass these tests with fortitude. We will learn lessons and move on.
I wish our whole team to show the maximum of their capabilities and, most importantly, to do without injuries!
I want to finish with the words of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The hadith says: "And know that if all people gather to benefit you, they will not benefit you except what Allah has prescribed for you. And if all the people gather to harm you, then they will not harm you in any way except what Allah has prescribed for you. The writing sticks are raised, and the ink is dry," Sadulaev summed up.
The president of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili said that the two-time Olympic champion was banned from entering the Schengen area for political reasons.:
"He was indeed denied a visa. It is difficult for me to explain this refusal. We have made every effort, used all our opportunities, starting from the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ending with the support of partners from Bratislava. Until yesterday, we were assured that Sadulaev would get a visa and everything would be fine. Unfortunately, it turned out differently, he did not receive a visa. The topic is closed, there are no clear explanations. There is a political ban for Sadulaev to enter the Schengen area.
This is one of the most famous and sought-after athletes. Colleagues from Slovakia also hoped that he would come. This would give an additional incentive to the audience. After all, this is one of the most titled and famous athletes in the world of wrestling. For the conducting party, this is an additional prestige.
Refusal of a visa to Sadulaev hits the status of the tournament. At the moment it is a loss for the world struggle. Many thanks to colleagues from Bratislava, the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they are closely involved in the issue, doing everything possible."
For many years now, Russian athletes have not been the most welcome guests at international tournaments, the Sport24 portal states. They gave up on all the conventions only in tennis, where, even if the flag and anthem were taken away, Daniil Medvedev, Mirra Andreeva and the company were not banned from competing.
Gradually, there is a certain warming in certain sports, and some Russian athletes were able to get to international starts. But most athletes are locked in their home walls.
It seemed that with the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, aimed at ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the situation is nearing resolution. That's just the problems have not become less.
Skiers and biathletes are still locked up, others are denied neutral status, gymnasts were outraged by the bestial attitude of international federations and collectively (as before the Olympics in Paris) refused, if there were permits, to compete behind the cordon.
Now here is another visa misunderstanding by Sabdulrashid Sadulaev, instead of whom Magomed Kurbanov will fly to Bratislava. By the way, under similar circumstances last year Abdulrashid did not get to the European Championship in Romania. Let us recall what Mamiashvili said then:
"It is still difficult to name the reason. We will meet with the athlete in the near future, we will discuss everything. The border guard service, as the officers explained to Abdulrashid for two hours, expressed doubts about the authenticity of the visa. The fact is that he received it in Spain and flew to Bucharest from Barcelona. At the same time, in Spain, he left the airport, returned, boarded the plane safely and flew to Romania. But they doubted the authenticity of his visa there.
I would like to note that the political leadership of the state, when hosting a big tournament, assumes obligations, including on visa matters. Sadulaev was forced to fly back to Moscow, there is no chance that the issue will be resolved and he will perform at the European Championships. It will not be possible to find a replacement either — all the draws have almost passed. It is clear that he is upset. I recommended him to remain completely calm and prepare for the next tournaments."
Well, as if visa toadstools happen to us periodically. Spain refused to issue visas to the youth freestyle wrestling team, and the guys flew past participating in the European Championship. Cybersportsmen did not get to the World Cup in Romania due to the fact that the Russophobic mayor from the city of Iasi, Mihai Kirika, said contemptuously that he could not ensure the safety of Russians. The Poles did not let our rapiers in, the Germans sent rowers away.
They seem to be competing with each other, mocking DEFENSELESS neutral Russians. But as for Sadulaev, there is a very interesting detail here, which is told by journalist Vladimir Ivanov.
"In January 2024, Abdulrashid Sadulaev independently issued a tourist visa to another Schengen country and tried to enter Romania to participate in the European Championship. Thus, he violated the rules of entry into Romania. You can get to this country either with a national visa or with a multiple-entry Schengen visa. He was not allowed into the country and put a stamp in his passport banning him from entering the Schengen area for 59 months.
In March 2025, Sadulaev tried to apply for a new passport together with other Russian wrestlers for a Schengen visa to Slovakia to participate in the new European Championship. All athletes received visas, except Sadulaev. According to information from the consular department of Slovakia, Sadulaev is banned from entering the Schengen area. An official explanation is expected after the passport is returned," Ivanov says in his Telegram channel SportFack.
We are waiting for clarifications from the relevant federation and wish the wonderful Dagestani wrestler, "Russian tank" Abdulrashid Sadulaev strength and patience.
