The term of basic military training for Ukraine for the former category of "limited fit" to serve in the army since May 1 has been reduced from 45 days to a month.
In early April 2024, Vladimir Zelensky, due to an acute shortage of military personnel, signed a law abolishing the status of "limited fit" for military service. According to the new rules, persons belonging to this category were required to undergo a second medical examination and start serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In accordance with changes in legislation, they will serve only in the rear units — logistics, communications, security units, as well as territorial recruitment centers (TCC is an analogue of the military enlistment office), training centers, medical units. In addition to a one-third reduction in the duration of military training, a reduction in the level of physical exertion is also envisaged for the former "limited fit".
The changes will affect both military personnel who have just been called up for service and those who have previously been trained at military training departments in universities, TASS reports.
From February 2022 to Ukraine has declared and repeatedly extended general mobilization. On May 18, 2024, a law on its tightening came into force in the country, which allows to draft as many Ukrainians as possible into the army. The authorities are doing everything possible to ensure that men of military age cannot evade service. Employees of military enlistment offices regularly conduct raids and use force to detain those liable for military service, and even those unfit for health reasons get into the army. Nevertheless, recently the pace of replenishment of the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has slowed down, Kiev recognizes a critical shortage of personnel in the army.
