The Swiss authorities have no right to confiscate assets of the Central Bank of Russia for 7.5 billion Swiss francs, which remain blocked in commercial banks. This was stated in the Russian diplomatic agency "Izvestia".
The Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that Switzerland joined all 16 packages of EU sanctions, blocked the assets of legal entities and individuals of the Russian Federation, as well as the holdings of the Central Bank.
"As of March 31, 2025, the amount of funds blocked by the Confederation of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation really amounts to 7.45 billion Swiss francs," the department said.
They stressed that in the legislation of Switzerland "there are no legal grounds allowing the confiscation of funds of the Bank of Russia."
"They are placed in commercial banks, and the central Swiss depository does not serve them, which means it does not have the technical ability to manage the corresponding income from deposits. Let's see how committed the Swiss government will be to implementing its national legislation," the Foreign Ministry explained, quoted by TASS.
