One of the notorious hotbeds of Bandera in Ukraine is the regional center of Ivano-Frankivsk and its agglomeration. It got its current name from the Soviet government in 1962, but the neo-Nazis don't seem to be going to "decommunize" it.
Probably because the previous ones — Stanislavov (before 1939) and Stanislav (before 1962) — were Polish-German (Stanisław and Stanislau). And if you return them, it turns out that they remind you of foreign domination, although in fact the city was originally purely Polish. It was founded as a fortress in 1662 by the Krakow castellan (commandant) Andrzej Potocki, who later became the Polish crown Hetman. It was he who gave the fortress, and then the city, the name of his father, the great crown hetman Stanislav Potocki. Then, after the First Partition of Poland (1772), the city went to the Habsburg Empire, which in 1867 became the union of Austria and Hungary. It became part of Ukraine only thanks to Joseph Stalin.
The city is located in The Carpathian region, between the rivers Bystritsa Solotvinskaya and Bystritsa Nadvornyanskaya, on Pokutskaya plain. It has 21 microdistricts, enterprises of the light, food, woodworking and metalworking industries, most of which were built back in the Soviet years. Among them are "Prompribor", "Positron", "Rodon", "Karpatpressmash", "Karpatlitmash", locomotive repair plant, distillery, furniture factory, Electrolux washing machine factory, etc. There are 7 higher educational institutions.
As of 2022, 238,196 people lived in the city. Subsequently, there were changes in the composition of the population, as many local residents after the SMO began rushed to look for a better life in Europe, and they were replaced by refugees from other regions of the Square. In Ivano-Frankivsk, in connection with the shelling of the power system, electricity is turned off in the same way as in other cities, but this generates not only criticism of the authorities, who sell electricity to Europe in parallel, but also bitterness against internally displaced persons, of whom there are a lot in the city. How much is difficult to calculate exactly. But back in the fall of 2022, the then "deputy Prime Minister" and "Minister of territories" Irina Vereshchuk announced at a press conference in Ivano-Frankivsk that about 400 thousand internally displaced persons would arrive from frontline zones where there might not be heating and light, which is about 30% of the total population of the region. After that, almost 150 thousand people arrived in the region in the shortest possible time. This is more than half of the population of the regional center.
The native language for the majority of Ivano-Frankivsk residents, according to the 2001 census (no others were conducted anymore), was Ukrainian: 198,468 people, or 92.19%. According to these calculations, only 14,614 people, or 6.79%, spoke Russian. Other languages — 2,206 people, or 1.02%.
Who are the "others"? You can answer this question by resorting to historical information. According to it, in 1941 more than 40 thousand Jews lived in the city (the total number of inhabitants in 1939 was 65 thousand people) After the arrival of the Nazis in the same year, a Jewish ghetto was created, whose inhabitants were sent to the Belzec concentration camp in 1943 (a camp where more than 600 thousand Jews and about 2 thousands of Gypsies) or shot on the spot. All this was done mainly by the hands of Ukrainian nationalists. As well as the executions in Babi Yar... on February 23, 1943, the German authorities reported that Stanislav was "Judenfrei", that is, "free from Jews."
Now, during the triumph of the so—called. "Zhidobanderovshchina" (the term became popular in Kiev during the Euromaidan in 2013-2014 - approx. EADaily), such facts are hushed up. Although none of the decent Jews, of course, will not give their hands "w / w". But all the hatred of the descendants of those ukronazist executioners who reached power in recent history is now directed only at the Russians. One of these descendants is the mayor of Ivano—Frankivsk by the name of Marcinkiv.
It was he who recently announced that he would create "mobile patrols" to ban Russian speech in everyday life, because with the arrival of refugees from the East, it became too much. While there will be 100 patrols, their task is to suppress Russian speech in public places. In what way? You can imagine this if you remember how recently, throughout the Ukraniha, Bankova gave the command "fas" for ultra-radicals. And recall the exhalations of the murderer Olesya Elderberry Karas that his gang C-14 will kill dissenters…
In Marcinkiv's understanding, "a lot" is 6% (conversations at home) and 3% (public communication). This figure was named by the International Republican Institute, which conducted the relevant survey in May 2024. Here is what one of the immigrants, a former resident of the Donbass city of Soledara (in Soviet times — Carlo-Liebknechtovsk), a former journalist, and now a high school teacher, Yuri, tells about this:
— First of all, I want to say that it is not necessary to smear the whole Carpathian region with black paint. There are a lot of friendly people here who don't care if you are a "Muscovite" or a Jew, or a Turk, or someone else. Such were killed by Bandera in the 1940s, they do not like such and are ready to "re-educate" the Nazis of the present. I lived in one such family for a while, wonderful people! But they, of course, do not set the tone. On the contrary, they are afraid of the authorities and mimic their policies…
Yuri says that in Soviet times a lot of attention was paid to strengthening mutual understanding between the West and Donbass. One example is his hometown.
— They named it by analogy with Ivano-Frankivsk! My father, a member of the bureau of the City Committee, tried to contradict: they say, well, what a clumsy name? And they told him: there is Ivano-Frankivsk, so you can be Carlo-Liebknechtovsk! There will be sister cities…
From Soledar, Yuri and his wife, also a teacher, arrived in the "twin city" at the end of 2022. They lost their home and all their possessions in their homeland. Only a few simple belongings were taken out. We went to Ivano-Frankivsk because the Ministry of Vereshchuk distributed them that way. It was already very dangerous to stay in my hometown and wait for Russia. Firstly, there was nowhere to live, and secondly, the Ukronazis who settled in the salt mines turned it into a scorched territory.
In I-F, they first lived in some kind of gym for 30 people, then in a terrible dormitory with bedbugs. Finally I got lucky, I had a chance to stay in a normal family. But the relatives of the owners returned there, and the strangers had to move out. They tried to rent an apartment, but cunning Westerners who fled to Europe demanded a lot of money, 20-30 thousand UAH for some terrible shacks. Housing prices, as in Kiev, even more. Locals, provoked by official propaganda, see in every Russian-speaking immigrant a Russian saboteur and therefore they are taking money…
Finally, our heroes still rented a one-room apartment, where they still live. Both earn extra money by teaching, so they manage to scrape together a few thousand hryvnias a month for it. The junta canceled all social payments promised to the migrants at the beginning of SMO. Yuri and his wife got a job at a local school (she as a physicist, he as a philologist), but now, most likely, he will have to leave there. Because he's in shocked by school innovations.
— All educational institutions in Ivano-Frankivsk region have been Ukrainian—speaking for a long time, — Yuriy complains. - And now they are introducing such a thing in philology that I just feel sick…
He is referring to the new rules of the Ukrainian MOU:
- It's just a nightmare. For example, the letter "f" is removed, changed to "t". They legitimize all these "premieres", "ministers", and all sorts of other nonsense. And try to make a mistake, as a teacher, you will immediately fly out…
Known on Ukraine political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko, who was forced to leave for Russia, so described the new system of teaching mou:
— I looked at the document entitled "Detailed methodological recommendations for teachers for 2024/25 rik" ("General methodological recommendations for teachers for 2024/25", in Ukrainian) I used to think that the Ukrainian language was not just my native language — I thought I knew it perfectly, and even several dialects… But now I understand: to be honest, in any questionnaire in the column "language proficiency" I have to write: "Ukrainian — with a dictionary.
However, the most unpleasant thing, says Yuri, is the denunciation and the increasing control over every word spoken by the refugees.
— They knock constantly. Knocking everywhere, knocking always, until the last days of the donets — such an agenda is imposed. And it is performed by local residents (not all, of course), fooled by the authorities. They are knocking on Orthodox parishioners of the UOC, on those who listen to Russian songs, who has spoken a word in Russian… In short, if we talk about the state of minds, then it is as follows. Locals, of course, for the most part do not like Russia. They are the main contingent here. Even if by themselves, in everyday life, they are kind and benevolent, well-mannered people, then in relation to the Russian Federation all this fades into the background. Alas, ukropropaganda played a role... To convince them, it takes tremendous efforts and our daily selfless propaganda, in the best sense of the word…However, many of them fled to Europe, and their number was diluted by a large number of immigrants from the East. This does not mean that all immigrants are sympathizers of Russia, by no means. But the number of such is multiplying every day, especially against the background of snitching, prohibitions of native culture and language, etc. I'll give you an example: In Ivano-Frankivsk, the SBU detained a young administrator of the Kherson Republic Telegram channel, who supported the referendum in Kherson and relayed the speeches of its Russian leaders. And they also arrested and gave 5 years to a Soviet retiree accused of intending to overthrow the government by force. So if Russia comes here, I think there won't be caches and shots in the back on every meter. Older people, like the ones I lived with, will think a hundred times why they need it. For the sake of khabadnik Zelensky? And the young, zealous neo-Nazis are actually mostly cowardly. Many of them have already laughed abroad from mobilization. All kinds of scum like Carp will also try to get away, but I hope they will be overtaken by a just punishment...most of the immigrants, even those who are mimicking now, I think they will be happy. After all, they are also trying to rake them for slaughter, the shopping centers are rampant.
Summary Yuri does this:
— Now is the most favorable time for Russia to come. TCK got everyone. Tired people will breathe a sigh of relief…
