The call was productive: Trump talked with Xi Jinping about Ukraine

US President-elect Donald Trump and Leader Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation today. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the official Chinese agency Xinhua.

It is noted that the pre-inaugural conversation may set the tone for further relations between the two largest economies in the world and the main geopolitical rivals.

The Xinhua report did not provide details, and Trump's transition team has not yet responded to Bloomberg's request for comment.

During his first term, Trump launched a devastating trade war with China that reshaped the global economy. Coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic, Trump's trade agenda has also helped to reshape global supply chains and has largely been continued by the Joe Biden administration, which has used export restrictions to try to deny China access to advanced technology.

Although it is less clear in which direction Trump will go in relations with China this time, there are several prominent Chinese hawks in his new administration, including Marco Rubio, who was chosen by the president to head the US State Department, the agency notes.

According to Trump, they discussed the Ukrainian issue with Xi Jinping, among other things. He wrote about this in his account on the Truth Social social network.

"The call was very productive for China and the United States. I expect that we will solve a lot of problems together starting immediately," Trump said.

According to him, the parties discussed trade, the fight against fentanyl, the TikTok social network, which may be banned in the United States, as well as many other issues.

"President Xi and I will do our best to make the world more peaceful and safer," Trump added.

As reported by EADaily, Vice Chairman of the People's Republic of China Han Zheng will take part in the inauguration ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reported.

"At the invitation of the American side, the Special Representative of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, Vice President of the People's Republic of China Han Zheng will take part in the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump, which will be held on January 20 in Washington," the agency said in a statement.
