The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, cannot speak on behalf of Croatia, they are high-ranking officials, but only officials, Croatian head of state Zoran Milanovic said on Tuesday, February 25.
The Croatian President answered journalists' questions at a celebration in Zagreb. He was also asked about Croatia's foreign policy.
"National security is the most intimate space of any nation. First we have to agree, and then move on," the head of state said, referring to the differences between him and the Croatian government.
"Until yesterday, the United States was our protector. Has something changed?" — he stressed, noting that there is no need to follow the loudest and most hysterical personalities in Europe.
"We must be in solidarity and loyal, we are not obliged to work behind the backs of others, but about automatically raising our hand to something invented in some department The EU is out of the question," Milanovic said.
Speaking about security guarantees for Ukraine, the President noted that two years ago he had repeatedly stated that this conflict was on the Ukraine is a conflict between Moscow and Washington at the expense of Ukraine, and eventually it will be resolved by Russia and America.
"I'm sorry I was right," he said, stating that who can go to Ukraine and what kind of weapons will be transported there depends on Moscow.
