Employees of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) initiated a large-scale destruction of classified documents at their headquarters in Washington, DC. This is reported by The Guardian with reference to the leaked e-mail from the abolished institution.
According to the article, the process involving the use of shredders and "garbage bags" takes place in the Ronald Reagan building.
In an email sent by Acting USAID Secretary Erica Y. Carr, contains specific instructions for cleaning "secret safes and personnel documents" by shredding documents and "burning packages" marked "Secret" throughout the day on Tuesday:
"First, destroy as many documents as possible and save garbage bags in case the document shredder fails or needs a break," Carr wrote, providing detailed instructions on how to properly seal and label garbage bags.
