Japan intends to maintain its participation in the Russian Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 projects. This is stated in the annual report on diplomacy of the Japanese Foreign Ministry called the "Blue Book," TASS reports.
"Sakhalin-1 oil and natural gas development projects and "Sakhalin-2"are important for Japan's energy security in terms of ensuring stable supplies in the medium and long term, and we intend to maintain our participation in them," the document says.
At the same time, it notes that the Japanese government is pursuing a policy of gradual abandonment of dependence on Russia, including coal and oil, and is acting in such a way as to minimize the negative impact on people's lives and business.
Japan is one of the world's largest importers of liquefied natural gas. It receives about 9% of all purchased blue fuel from the Sakhalin-2 project. Mitsui and Mitsubishi own 12.5% and 10% shares in it, respectively.
