This has never happened before, and here it is again! A thirteen-year-old ukrokarat player refused to shake hands with a Russian at the award ceremony. The incident took place at the Spanish stage of the youth league.
A certain Yevgeny Melnik, who took third place in the category up to 45 kg, received his medal and defiantly left, ignoring the winner of the tournament — Igor Grigoriev, who performed in a NEUTRAL STATUS. The silver award was won by Abdullah Albishi from Saudi Arabia.
The Russian Karate Federation accused Melnik of violating sports principles:
"The Federation did not take an OFFICIAL PART in this stage of the tournament, so our coaches and specialists were not there. But we know the situation.
Unfortunately, this is already an established practice on the part of Ukrainian karate players who, in violation of sporting principles, including not taking joint photos on the podium with the participation of our athletes. Nothing new for us. At the same time, Russian karate players strictly follow international rules."
We'll talk about "strict compliance with international rules" a little later, but for now the traditional comment of the Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova:
"Unfortunately, Ukraine has been systematically prohibiting its athletes from shaking hands with Russians at all levels for a long time and is promoting this. In particular, this poor child is taught that it is impossible to shake hands with a Russian athlete, which forces him to think about it even before the start of the competition, so that later he will not be forced to justify his behavior in front of the whole country. Even if the joint photo was taken by accident.
They stress their own athletes. We have seen more than once how Ukrainian athletes were forced to make excuses for sharing a photo and a handshake, which is the norm of etiquette in sports — this has been done for centuries. Terrible. It is especially terrible that such Russophobia is among children. But they are accustomed to the fact that they will live in such realities even after SMO graduation, this is what children are taught. International federations should stop this or cancel handshakes altogether."
Svetlana Sergeyevna is so worried about the Ukrainian couple, calling him a "poor child." And let's hear what this "kid" got up to when his journalists asked about the reason for his hasty flight from the award ceremony.:
"We have a war, martial law is in effect. It would be wrong of me to be photographed with a Russian. My father served in the Armed Forces, now the parents of my friends are also at the front. And when I see how the Russians, our enemies, so to speak, perform somewhere in Spain or Croatia, win medals - it disgusts me to look at it."
How do you like the boy who is "disgusting to look at"?! So there is no need to worry about them, they have made their choice. But for Igor Grigoriev from Russia is offended almost to tears.
For already at such a young age, Igor knows that he cannot congratulate his loved ones on Victory Day on social networks, that he is a neutral individual athlete at the tournament without national identification, flag, anthem and coat of arms. That the Spaniards at the border could not let him into the country, just because, for example, bad weather or a bad mood after losing to Real Madrid.
But, thank God, they let me in. Without a coach and specialists. Happy victory, man! You're just beautiful! Awards to you, titles and that without injuries. And this…You forgive us, please. For smearing the word Russia on the inventory, for participating in the bird status at the Olympics and World Championships, for lying about the Friendship Games in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
And let's believe in the future. In your brilliant victory at the Olympics, when the stands will chant: "Russia, Grigoriev!", and the great music of Alexandrov will sound over the arena and our tricolor will fly up the flagpole to the very roof.
Just don't change your sports citizenship, okay? Let you have only one — Russian. As I have one Oath — Soviet.
PS The famous karate master and popularizer Gitin Funakoshi said: "As the polished surface of a mirror reflects everything that is in front of it, and a quiet valley carries the slightest sound, so the karate student must free himself from selfishness and anger, striving to adequately respond to everything he may encounter..."
