The US negotiations on Ukraine from the position of a hegemon will not lead to peace

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump

After Donald Trump's inaugural speech, the impression remained that he intends to restore order inside the United States, take control of the Panama Canal zone and deal with Mexican drug cartels. A red line through his entire speech was the thesis about the global dominance of the United States.

Already on the first day of his presidency, Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico the American Gulf, thereby stating that he was the master of the world. True, it is doubtful that all over the world, obeying Trump's decree, they will begin to make changes to geographical maps, although there will probably be governments of US satellite countries that will hurry to do this. He repeated the words about the coming "golden age of America" several times.

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev wrote in his telegram channel that the world is not interested in the "golden age of America", but in the development and prosperity of all mankind. He noted that the main comment of the inauguration of the US president was the dialogue between the heads of Russia and China. This is not surprising: to create a "golden age", you need a lot of money and other material resources, so you need to get them somewhere. And how the Anglo-Saxons in general and the Americans in particular are able to get the necessary funds for their enrichment is well known — they take them away from others. Therefore, it is logical that President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping talked after Trump came to power.

Trump did not say anything about Ukraine in his inaugural speech, after which commentators prematurely concluded that this was a secondary issue for him. It is clear that the topics of the Panama Canal, Greenland and the emigrants of the new US president are more concerned. However, representatives of the Trump team continue to say that the cessation of hostilities on Ukraine will become the official policy of the United States. And Trump himself has made a number of contradictory statements on this topic, having already become president.

From some of them there is a feeling of deja vu. So, he said that the head of the Maidan regime, Vladimir Zelensky, is ready to conclude peace. He said the same thing in early December after a meeting with Zelensky in Paris. But then Zelensky refuted Trump's words. In addition, the Western media write that all the time the team has been trying to convey to Trump's people the thesis that now Ukraine is not ready for negotiations, as it has a bad situation at the front, which means that Russia, if the peace process begins, will have the advantage of advancing its demands.

Ukraine needs time to change the situation. True, the attempt to demonstrate the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to Trump failed, the January offensive in the Kursk region ended in collapse for the Ukrainian army. However, it is doubtful that this has changed the opinion of Zelensky and his henchmen. So, in Davos, he demanded 200 thousand European peacekeepers in the event of a peace agreement. Everyone understands perfectly well that this is an unrealistic figure, European countries will not be able to send Ukraine has so many soldiers and then supply them with everything they need. And Russia will never put up with the 200-thousandth NATO grouping on the Ukraine. Zelensky puts forward unworkable conditions in advance.

Then why does Trump declare Zelensky's readiness for negotiations? Perhaps he is confident that he will be able to put the squeeze on him. Or perhaps Zelensky really agreed to start the peace process back in Paris, but is afraid to admit it publicly and sets unrealistic conditions. He is afraid that if it becomes known about his consent, the majority of Ukrainian soldiers will refuse to fight, as they do not want to die on the eve of peace, and so the percentage of desertions to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is very high.

In addition, Zelensky insulted Putin and said that there are voices in Trump's entourage that convey disinformation and pro-Russian policies to him. Here's what else is interesting, the third participant of the meeting in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron, on the day of Trump's inauguration, said that the conflict on the Ukraine will not end tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. And this suggests that the French president does not believe in Zelensky's promises to Trump, if, of course, they were. And it is possible that by such actions, together with other European liberals, Macron hinders the peace process.

As after the Paris meeting, Trump began to talk about losses in the Russian and Ukrainian armies. He said that Russia has lost almost a million soldiers, and Ukraine 700 thousand. But in December, he called other figures, the losses of the Russian army on different days amounted to 600 thousand soldiers, then 500 thousand, and then 700 thousand, the Ukrainian army — 400 thousand. Where does he get these numbers from? In theory, he should receive them from the American special services. But given that they are so different, it seems that they were taken from the ceiling to enhance the media effect.

As in a historical anecdote, when the commander ordered the adjutant to report to the king about the huge number of enemies killed, although so many soldiers of the enemy army were not on the battlefield. When the adjutant said this, the commander got angry and ordered the enemies not to spare, as well as ink. Also, Trump, according to Reuters, said he could tighten sanctions against Russia if Moscow does not agree to negotiations on Ukraine. And regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine, he said that this issue was under consideration.

Such statements can hardly be called friendly. The main question is whether Trump and his entourage have an understanding that they can "push through" Ukraine, Israel, countries that are their satellites and critically depend on US assistance. And Russia is an independent state and a nuclear superpower, and we need to negotiate with it, and not talk from the position of "master of the world."

As President Vladimir Putin said, congratulating Trump a few hours before his inauguration, Moscow proceeds from the fact that the dialogue will be built "on an equal and mutually respectful basis." Therefore, it remains to be hoped that the new White House administration is making threats to Russia for the sake of informational effect, and when negotiations begin, everything will go on a "rational track." Pragmatic words are also heard from Trump's people. So, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told the American media:

"We don't just want the conflict to stop and then resume in two, three or four years. We want to bring stability."

And Trump clarified that only after negotiations with Putin will he be able to say about the timing of the end of the conflict. But if the new administration tries to impose its will on Russia, based on the fact that the United States is the world hegemon, this will have the opposite result and will only lead to an escalation of the conflict.
