Relations between the two countries have deteriorated after DR Congo accused Rwanda of supporting the M23 rebel group, which is advancing in the provinces of North and South Kivu in the east of the country.
During Saturday, January 25, there were fierce clashes between rebel forces and the Congolese army on the outskirts of the city of Goma. Sources in the Congolese army claimed that the offensive was thwarted. However, according to a senior intelligence source, Rwanda "wants to seize Goma before the UN Security Council meeting."
