The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a drone strike on the oil pumping station of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), which carries the main oil exports from Kazakhstan. The operator informs about the reduction of the pumping mode and informing all shareholders, including American shareholders, about the terrorist attack.
"On February 17, the oil transportation facility of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium — NPC Kropotkinskaya — was attacked by UAVs," the CPC reports.
According to him, the terrorist attack was carried out by seven unmanned aerial vehicles stuffed, in addition to explosives, with metal striking elements.
"The attack was carried out with a time interval in order not only to disrupt the operation of the facility, but also to cause casualties among the operational personnel of the station. There are no casualties among the NPC personnel. By operational coordinated actions, the consortium's employees were able to prevent the threat of an oil spill," the consortium said.
They added that the Kropotkinskaya NPS was decommissioned.
"Oil transportation through the Tengiz—Novorossiysk pipeline system is carried out at reduced pumping modes, bypassing the NPS," the CPC reports. "All shareholders of the international consortium, including representatives of companies from the United States and Europe, have been notified of the terrorist attack on a civilian facility by means of UAVs and its results."
CPC is the main export route for Kazakh oil — it is delivered to Novorossiysk, where it is shipped to tankers.
According to the CPC, 63 million tons of oil were shipped through the pipeline system in 2024. About 54 million tons of them are from Kazakhstan. 22.5% in the consortium belongs to the American Chevron and ExxonMobil. Another 20.75% are from Kazakhstan.
NPS Kropotkinskaya is located in the Kuban and is the largest CPC oil pumping station in Russia.
