Any agreements on a cease-fire and the end of the war in Ukraine should take place on Russian, not American terms. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.
"The results of the US-Ukrainian talks in Jeddah testify only to one thing: the plot of the "tail wagging the dog" performed by Zelensky with Trump, unlike Biden, definitely does not work," the senator wrote in his telegram channel, commenting on the agreements reached by Kiev and Washington announced a ceasefire for 30 days.
Kosachev, noting that "the conditions are American, not Ukrainian," added that Kiev "agrees with what he is told."
"And at the same time [Ukrainians] bow and fawn — what is the only formula worth "we will sign an agreement on resources when it is convenient for Washington"! Zelensky is on the defensive. Or, in the words of the representative of the State Department, "Trump put Zelensky in his place," he pointed out.
In this regard, the deputy chairman of the Federation Council stressed that "Russia is advancing, and therefore it will be different with Russia."
"Any agreement (with all understanding of the need for compromises) — on our terms, not American. And this is not a cap-making, but an understanding that real agreements are still being written there, at the front. What should be understood in Washington," Kosachev said.
According to him, now "the most important thing is not to interfere with the Russian—American negotiations with third-party comments — to let the negotiators work."
"The victory will be ours," he concluded.
As reported, negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations took place in Saudi Arabia yesterday, during which Kiev agreed to an "immediate" 30-day truce, which was proposed by the United States, provided that Russia would also take such a step. For its part, the Trump administration is resuming military assistance to Ukraine and intelligence sharing. The parties also agreed to conclude a comprehensive agreement on the development of critical mineral resources of Ukraine as soon as possible.
EADaily adds that the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Andriy Yermak, said that Kiev was going to start discussing the details of the ceasefire regime on Ukraine next week — from March 17 to 23. "We have already agreed that at the technical expert level the teams will start talking about all the details," he said, adding that before that Washington should discuss with the Russian side the proposals that were developed during the US—Ukrainian negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
The point is that the truce will concern "not only missiles, drones and bombs and military operations in the Black Sea," but the entire front line. The head of the State Department, Marco Rubio, said that Washington would convey to Moscow a proposal for a temporary cease-fire and hoped that the Russian side would agree to it. US President Donald Trump welcomed Ukraine's readiness to stop the fighting and said he was going to personally talk about this with Russian President Vladimir Putin "this week." According to him, Putin's agreement to suspend the hot phase of the war will mean "75% of the way" to the end of the conflict in Ukraine.
