Zaporozhye nuclear power plant can operate at full capacity without the participation of Ukraine, said RIA Novosti director of the NPP Yuri Chernichuk.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the transfer of the NPP or control over it to Ukraine or another country is impossible, and joint operation with another country is unacceptable. The ministry also noted that the idea of international organizations participating in the operation of the station looks absurd. In addition, a number of media outlets, citing Volodymyr Zelensky, reported that the NPP would allegedly not be able to operate at full capacity without technical resources located on Ukrainian territory.
"It can, of course," Chernichuk said, answering the question whether the NPP is capable of operating at full capacity without the participation of Ukraine.
"The key to launching the station is the cessation of hostilities and ensuring security guarantees. The second is the restoration of networks and the provision of additional water to the station, as well as conducting technical surveys, repairs and obtaining licenses in accordance with Russian legislation," the director of the NPP added.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity: the station has six power units with a capacity of one gigawatt each. In October 2022, the nuclear power plant became the property of the Russian Federation.
