The European Union "deeply regrets" the US decision to impose 25 percent duties on car imports. This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as reported by AFP.

"I deeply regret the US decision," von der Leyen said, adding that the EU "will continue to seek solutions through negotiations" with the United States.

According to Donald Trump, new US duties of 25% on "all cars not manufactured in The "United States tariffs" announced on Wednesday will take effect on April 2, the same day as the so-called "reciprocal" duties sought by Washington. These new duties on cars will be "permanent," as stated by the US president, assuring, however, that his future "retaliatory" duties will be "very mild."

Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU "will evaluate this statement" simultaneously with other measures planned by Washington in the coming days.

"As I have already said, tariffs are taxes that are bad for business and even worse for consumers, as in In the United States, and in The European Union," she added.
